SynthPrincipal
Some people just have talent and qualities that are special and need to be highlighted. One such person is Dan, most known as SynthPrincipal. We became acquainted via Instagram and what stood out most for me with Dan besides his cool Synth sound, was his approach to social media and the independent music scene as a whole. His feed is filled with beautiful visuals he creates of bedroom, cityscape, outrun and cyberpunk themed art (and in my colour pallet!). The motion images are filled with purples, pinks and blues with hints of fiery neon with each post accompanied by a gorgeous piece of music.
It’s fair to say that he has carved out a tiny corner of the social space that is his own. Even when others repost his work it’s obvious who the original creator is. What’s more, he dedicates a gigantic amount of time showcasing and highlighting music from others in the Synthwave/Retro scene. I was one such artist a while back and, what struck me is that Dan really wanted to know the musician behind the music. He had a genuine interest about what inspired me, what makes me tick and how I approach the songwriting process. It was obvious to me that he took the time to give everyone the same level of attention and interest to their work and creative pursuits.
We’ve shared many conversations and I am really inspired by his story. He began making music after working on games design at college and on an assignment part of the task was to create the soundtrack to accompany what he was working on. I guess we can say the rest is history. He was bitten by the musical bug and started off making Synthwave as it was the music that caught his ear at the time. It’s no surprise as the music often crosses paths with fans of the gaming space. Later deciding to make the switch from game designer to music maker, his work has gone from strength to strength!
I was also taken by the fact that he has some personal struggles with health issues but, refuses to let it stop his musical endeavours. In fact, he pushes on in spite of it which I find so admirable! I love that passion is his driver regardless of what personal challenges he may have to deal with.
On a side note, Dan is one of the nicest and most helpful musicians I have ever had to privilege of connecting with. Always making time to encourage, inspire, share tips and tricks and showcase others without a shred of competitiveness or bad feeling. I honestly hope I can be as helpful to others as I have seen him be. So I say shoutout to you my friend you’re a legend!
Guys check out his awesome works and give him some love, he deserves it!
