Introducing Castell!
I get so pumped when I discover a new act in the scene, especially when the act in question is British! Let me introduce you to Castell. Coming from Essex they have a slick and awesome sound influenced by Phil Collins, Michael Jackson, Mr Mister, Christopher Cross and Five Star! They began making sounds back in 2015/16 with an idea to have a synthwave sound with a heavy rock influence giving a nod to Whutesnake and Toto. Castell gained quite the following in their home town.
They eventually decided to take things in another direction following a shift in attitude and creative ideas. The band disbanded in 2018 and have now made a very welcome comeback in 2024. Imagine that classic 80s sound with a masculine, rough edge to it, slick vocals and groovy production!
The first song to drop was Beach Coma! The title would suggest a chilled ambient vibe but no! When you hear the pumping drums, crystalline synths, electric guitars and gritty male vocals all you want to do is jump in the car, drop the windows and speed away into the sunset! What a track, I just love the high energy and the soundscape. They tell me, ‘We wanted this track to set the precedent for our music as completely honest and unapologetic with no underlying agenda. This is our unmistakeable sound that brings nostalgic warmth to a contemporary playing field. With Beach Coma portraying a sense of exhaustion with the day-to-day and escapism, Castell looks ahead to tackling deeper themes like time, existence, love and lies’.
I instantly knew I wanted to hear more and, boy oh boy when I heard a teaser of their upcoming single ‘Tomorrow’ I was pumped! This would have been an amazing hit in the clubs back in the day. I’m thinking on Soul Train or Studio 54! It has great rocky vocals with a touch of soul/R&B with the sound that’s reminiscent of LA Reid, Babyface or Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis! I cannot wait for everything else they have in the pipeline.
Pre-save ‘Tomorrow’ here and give them a follow on Instagram trust me, Castell is one to watch!
I’m hoping they get on bandcamp soon so we can purchase some amazing music and merch!
