Love Connection
So, February is the month of love and romance what with Valentines day! Stores are filled with cards, candy and mementoes.
I have always had a special affinity with love songs so, it’s no surprise that I enjoy writing and singing them. We have all gotten lost in a romantic melody or listened to the stories of heartbreak, new love and devotion.
Kevin (Sellorekt LA Dreams) and I have had many conversations discussing music from times past, today and everything that goes into creating the perfect song! We both reflect on how songs from back in the day had a sweet innocent aspect to them, especially when the subject is love. We thought it would be fun to put together a few songs touching on the theme. I wanted to let you all in on how I approached writing the lyrics on these songs and what they represent to me.
‘All I Want’ is the opening song and was actually the last one we wrote. You could call this one a devotional love letter about staying together against the odds. Kevin’s production gave me old Motown vibes and so I took more of a soulful approach with Doo Wop influence with my lyrics and vocals.
When I got the early production to ‘Perfect For Me’, I got visuals of a young girl who’s fallen in love with her new beau following a tough heartbreak. She’s totally in her bubble and is near enough floating on cloud 9! The emotional response I got from the instrumental of the song took me back to the Donna Delroy classic ‘Always Thinking Of You’ from the movie ‘Three Men And A Little Lady’. When I heard the final production which finished off with Kevin’s awe inspiring piano solo, this quickly became one of my feel good songs to sing!
‘Say It Again’, this song sort of wrote itself. Kevin had titled the production this way and, as soon as I heard the chords the lyrics just sort of fell into place. I guess you could say I tapped into my Lisa Stansfield vibe. Side note, this is the first song i’ve ever done with a spoken intro, something Kevin thought would be a cool touch.
‘Anniversary’ was inspired by all the wedding songs I’ve loved over the years, only I wanted to take it from the perspective of a women who’s been married for quite some time who is still just as in love today as she was back when she said I do. This was another one where the story was inspired by Kevin’s production and given title.
The ultimate fairytale dream for anyone in love is that it will never end. ‘Forever’ was actually the first song written on this project and originally had the name ‘Let’s Get Lost’. The former title inspired the story of a woman promising to not only be committed to her other half but, just how much she wants a relationship full of adventure where the love will go on for all time.
‘Love Connection’ just dropped on Bandcamp for Valentines day and will be hitting the streaming sites in just a few weeks! Pre-save it here!
